Shop on the Corner

Outreach Ministry / Shop on the Corner

Open Wednesdays 8:45 - 11:45 am / First Wednesday of the month 8:45 - 12:45 am

Shop on the Corner, Trinity on the Hill’s thrift shop, has been in operation for probably 50 years. During that time, the scope of the store has expanded greatly, the biggest leap in donations and usage coming during the Cerro Grande Fire. Since that time, the Shop’s community presence has increased from parishioners and a few savvy locals to include visits from people from as far away as Ojo Caliente and out-of-state and even international visitors who find thrift stores a genial place to shop for necessities and the unexpected treasures.

Shop on the Corner’s proceeds go to meet the needs of families and organizations that work to promote the health and welfare of citizens locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Not only does the Shop contribute financially to a variety of organizations, but the Shop also tries to serve the community in other ways. A partnership between the occupational special education class at the high school and the Shop has been maintained for the past school year. Every week during the school year, one, two or three students and their aides walk over early on Wednesday morning to help the Shop staff get ready for the sales day. These young people help place the racks, set out special items of interest, put the signs out, and bag purchases. Customers are happy to see the students and to let them be of assistance.

There is little direct monetary value to volunteering to work in the Shop; however, the benefits are great in friendships, feelings of usefulness, and general stimulation. A morning of working at the Shop usually contributes to the workers’ senses of accomplishment and well-being. Anyone is more than welcome to join sorting on Tuesday mornings and/or sales and sorting on Wednesday mornings. Consider this your personal invitation to join the fun.

The Shop on the Corner partners with the House of Hope and Trinity Builders to present an annual High Tea and Fashion Show. These photographs by TK Thompson of outfits modeled at the event provide a glimpse into the quality and variety of clothing items available at Shop on the Corner.
